Facebook users have been spied on by some surveillance companies. Meta has confirmed that 50,000 consumers have been affected by the malicious activity.

The UK government has made proposals that would force social networking sites like Facebook to pass on the details of users, friends and contacts to help fight terrorism.

The giant social media company explained the seriousness of the so-called rental surveillance industry. In Meta’s new blog post, the tech company said these spy companies collect information from users around the world.
The details collected would then be manipulated so that they could gather more sensitive information from their victims. They could even use the stolen data to compromise Facebook users’ accounts and devices.
“These companies are part of a sprawling industry that provides intrusive software tools and indiscriminate monitoring services to any customer,” Meta explained via its official safety report.
50,000 Facebook users spied on!
According to CNBCIn its latest report, Meta has already banned companies involved in espionage activity. These include Cognyte, Black Cube, Blue Hawk CI, BellTroX, Cytrox, Cobwebs Technologies, as well as an anonymous Chinese company.

Mark Zuckerberg’s firm also explained that these seven rental watch agencies performed a combination of exploitation, engagement and oversight.
